marine research
We are DINIMAR
We study the seas, the coastal ecosystems and the impacts of human activities on their biodiversity, ecological state and functioning.
Our Services
Marine biodiversity studies
Hard-bottom phytobenthic and zoobenthic communities studies, soft bottom zoobenthic communities and seagrass ecosystems studies, fish biodiversity surveys.
Ecological impact assessment
Assessment of impacts on coastal ecosystems of infrastructure projects, aquaculture and maritime transport. Monitoring programs establishment for long-term studies of impacts. Risk assessment studies
Water quality assessments
Monitoring of physical, chemical and biological parameters of marine waters, in-situ and lab-based measurements, rapid assessment of water quality with multiparamter probes, data analysis and visualisaton
MSFD and WFD ecological status
Implementation of WFD chemical and biological quality elements monitoring of coastal waters, MSFD Descriptors status evaluation ( GES descriptors related to benthic ecosystems biodiversity, sea floor integrity, eutrophication, marine litter)
Coastal ecosystems mapping
Spatial mapping of hard- and soft-bottom benthic ecosystems, habitat classification (EUNIS, Habitats Directive, MSFD habitat types),MPA baseline surveys and designation, GIS database integration and visualisation
Scuba diving surveys
Scientific scuba diving surveys of the marine benthos, aquacultures and infrastructure
R&D of underwater technologies
Development and testing of innovative methods and instrumentation for scuba and boat-based photo and video marine benthos surveys, data integration with multiparameter probes, GIS and databases
